10. Can I trigger external equipment from Magstim Stimulators and vice-versa?

Yes, Magstim Stimulators are capable of providing output pulses to trigger external equipment (for example EMG systems). Similarly, external sources can be used to trigger the Magstim Stimulators. Additional features are available, such as selectable trigger polarity (positive or negative), selectable trigger input type (edge or level) and selectable output pulse width.

On the Magstim 200, BiStim and Rapid, BNC connectors are provided on the rear panel for both trigger input and trigger output. Switches then allow the options above to be defined.

On the newer Magstim 200², BiStim² and Rapid², the same can be achieved via the External Interface Port on the rear panel. Interface cables can be connected directly to the Interface Port or, for increased functionality, the new Magstim Stimulator Interface Module offers both BNC and D-type connection as well as allowing user selectable options to be defined.

In addition to the Interface Module, Magstim Innovations can create any combination of interface cables once some basic information is received regarding the target device and the desired operation of the system.
